Our Mission

At Vibrant Occupational Therapy, our Occupational Therapists listen carefully to understand what is truly important in your life. We then set goals and develop priorities to guide our therapy services, integrating assistive technology where appropriate. Our approach utilises evidence-based principles of neuroplasticity within both intervention and assessment. Vibrant Occupational Therapy is dedicated to supporting individuals and their families who are living with neurological disabilities, particularly those affected by Parkinson's Disease, including Atypical Parkinson's, and Dementia.

Occupational Therapists (OTs) work alongside individuals to:

- Learn new skills,

- Make environmental changes, and/or

- Adapt activities using assistive technology.

Together, we conduct a comprehensive assessment that covers various life skills and clinical areas, which is vital for understanding how neuroplasticity can be harnessed in our interventions, particularly for individuals with Parkinson's. This approach helps us identify the most effective areas for intervention to achieve significant functional change.

As Occupational Therapists (OT) support you in engaging with meaningful activities, various body systems can affect your ability to participate fully. We are experienced in assessing key functional clinical areas, including cognition and thinking skills, vision skills, and movement skills such as fine motor, gross motor, falls risk, and manual handling. Additionally, we focus on seating and posture over a 24-hour period, as well as sensory processing—how you perceive and process sensory information. Our approach often incorporates assistive technology to enhance your daily activities, leveraging the principles of neuroplasticity to support individuals with conditions like Parkinson's.

Work: engaging in paid work, volunteer work, and organizing your home with the support of assistive technology can enhance productivity. Recreation: participating in sports, leisure interests, crafts, and social activities helps promote neuroplasticity and overall well-being. Self-care: activities such as showering, grooming, toileting, and eating are essential, especially for those working with an Occupational Therapist (OT) to develop personalized routines. Domestic: managing your finances, cooking, cleaning, laundry, and grocery shopping are vital tasks that can be adapted with assistive technology, along with taking tablets as prescribed. Mobility: focusing on sitting well, in-home mobility, community access, and bike riding can significantly improve quality of life for individuals with Parkinson's. Rest: managing your energy, maintaining sleep hygiene, and optimising sleep positioning are crucial for recovery and health.

We are able to complete a range of assessments and reports tailored to the needs of the funding body. For instance, Medico-legal and NDIS reports, which often require extensive evidence, take longer to prepare. Our reports include NDIS specific functional capacity assessment reports, home and living reports, and detailed assistive technology reports designed to enhance the quality of life for individuals. Other assessments may involve before and after intervention evaluations, activities of daily living reports, home modification reports, and FIM assessment reports. As an Occupational Therapist (OT), I also consider the principles of neuroplasticity when assessing clients, including those with Parkinson's, to provide the most effective recommendations.

Assistive Technology Prescription

Assistive Technology Prescription

Two modern electric wheelchairs, one with tank-like tracks and one with standard wheels.

We are here to support you with assistive technology, whether you need a complex scripted power wheelchair or assistance with cooking and bathing equipment. If you're seeking advice on selecting the right equipment to enhance your function or require training on how to use these aids, an Occupational Therapist (OT) can guide you.

Appointments for assistive technology trials or prescriptions can be arranged at your home or at an equipment supplier's location, depending on your preferences and clinical needs.

For complex equipment like wheelchairs, a thorough seating assessment is necessary, and ideally, you should undergo two or more equipment trials before requesting funding. This process is vital, especially for individuals with conditions such as Parkinson's, as it supports neuroplasticity and enhances your overall functionality.
